How many chances do you get to make a great first impression?

One. Just the one.

Yes, in some circumstances, you may be able to repair the damage, but you’ll still be coming from behind, having to work extra hard to make up the shortfall. It’s not a comfortable place to be but that’s where many organisations hang around. They’re not quite nailing it, but they’re not ready to give up on the goal.

We’re specialist providers of workwear, PPE including safety footwear, gloves and COVID-related supplies. Our customers come from a wide range of sectors including road haulage, rail, marine, manufacturing and commerce, but they have one thing in common. They understand a simple fact. When employees have the right equipment, they do a better job and are more likely to make a great first impression.

The right equipment isn’t just about having a winch with enough power or a compressor that holds its pressure. It includes things as basic as gloves, Hi-Viz vests and – in these difficult times – sanitiser gel. It’s having gear available for visitors that’s clean and presentable. It’s about workwear for the team that fits, is comfortable, practical and hardwearing. It’s about meeting health and safety standards. It’s also about your corporate image and how your organisation is perceived.

Here’s a question: what’s the point in attracting a new client if you lose them instantly because your image up close doesn’t match what they’re expecting? The immediate problem is that the client has lost trust. You may be exactly what you say – totally capable and competent – but now the client isn’t so sure. Will you get repeat business? Possibly. Possibly not.

There’s another point that’s worth thinking about. You’ll have heard the phrase “dress to impress” but often the person most influenced by clothing is the person wearing it. We know from first-hand experience and countless testimonials, that when people are dressed appropriately for the job they’re doing, they really step up to the task.

Yes, it’s substance that matters. We all know that. But without the right first impression, you won’t get the chance to show your substance.

One chance. Grab it.
