You should be scared of the dark

Ever since you were a kid, they’ve been telling you there’s nothing to be afraid of. They’re wrong. Dark nights are full of dangers.

There’s the pothole that’s invisible until it’s ripped the wall out of a tyre. There’s the standing water on the unlit stretch of dual carriageway that sends vehicles aquaplaning into the central reservation. And just around a bend, hidden by overgrown trees, is a broken down dark-coloured van.

That’s why you’re out there. You’re the recovery expert, rescuing the stranded, worried and stressed motorist.

It can be life or death out there on the roads in the recovery business. We all know that. But here’s the thing: poor visibility makes your job more dangerous. It could be fog, a squall of rain or a power cut. It could be the short days of autumn and winter, which will soon be upon us, but if you’re not visible, you could be in big trouble.

No exaggeration, Hi-Viz clothing is a lifesaver.

We’re not talking about a simple waistcoat. In the dark, that’s not enough. If it’s cold or wet, it’s just too tempting to pull a coat over the top. You need the protection of reflective strips and bright fluorescents all over. And at Knights, our range of workwear gives you multiple ways to achieve that: coveralls, trousers, shorts, fleeces, bomber jackets and anoraks. We’ve even got Gore-Tex options – because, in this country, we do get plenty of rain.

Let’s be clear about something. When we recommend that you head out to do your job with a full complement of Hi-Viz gear, we’re not questioning your competence, your professionalism or even your courage. We know your job takes guts and that you’re used to working in challenging locations. We’re just suggesting you think about other road users. Help them to see the upcoming hazard and steer around you, your vehicle and those you’re helping to get safely off that dark stretch of road.

The nights are drawing in. Please, please, please respect the dangers you face.
